Men's Soccer
2008 Season Preview

Continued Improvement the Key for Mariners

The 2007 campaign for the Maine Maritime Academy Men's Soccer team was a season of small steps and continued improvement. The Mariners won two more games than the previous season, and improved in virtually every statistical category, including goals for and goals against. The Mariners had a very young team with nine first year players starting during the course of the season.

There is much optimism in Castine for the 2008 season. Combine this with a talented 11 player recruiting class, second year head coach Travers Evans is very excited about the upcoming season.

"We made a lot of progress with our young players during the 2007 spring season. Many of them got a baptism by fire last fall but really improved their level of play in the spring which excites us all as we head into the 2008 fall season. I also feel as though we have significantly upgraded our talent level with the new players that we have coming to campus to play here this fall. Many of them will be pushing the returning players and challenging them for playing time right away. Now we just need to get better every day during the preseason and concentrate on doing things the right way. If we are able to do that, the results are going to come. I am very excited about this team and can't wait to get going."

The Mariners open up their 2008 season on Saturday August 30th at the University of New England.
