Travers Evans
Head Coach
Travers Evans enters his second season guiding the Lady Mariner Soccer program after an eleven year stint at the University of Maine. Coach Evan's 2007 squad won nine games and reached the playoffs for the eighth consecutive year. In his first year at the helm, Evans coached two NAC all-conference players.
While at the University of Maine, he lead his 2003 men's soccer team to their first post season appearance since 1993, and the most wins in almost a decade. For his efforts that season he was named the America East conference Coach of the Year. Prior to being hired as the head men's soccer coach, Evans served as the Assistant Director of Soccer Operations for one season and served as the Assistant Men's Soccer Coach for three seasons.
Evans has been very active in the youth soccer scene in Maine as well. He is the co-founder, former president, and current coach in the Blackbear United Football Club. Blackbear United is a youth soccer program that services approximately 300 players in the greater Bangor area. He also served as a coach in the Olympic Development program in Maine for five seasons, most recently coaching the 1987 boys. Evans has also served as a guest lecturer at the Maine AGM in both 1998 and 2006. He earned his NSCAA National Coaching Diploma in 1997.
Prior to the beginning of his coaching career Evans played collegiately at Northeastern University. Evans played for New Hampshire coaching legend Jim Tufts at Exeter High School for two seasons, and for two seasons under the tutelage of longtime Portland High School coach Rocco Frenzilli. He was a member of the New Hampshire Olympic Development Program, and was named to the Foster's Daily Democrat dream team in 1989. Evans earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology from the University of Maine in 1997.
Coach Evans lives in Bangor with his wife Johanna and their two children, son Riley 4 and daughter Taylor 2. The couple is expecting the birth of their third child in August of 2007.
Assistant Coach
Erin Caprara
Erin Caprara enters her first season as the Assistant Women's Soccer coach at Maine Maritime. Caprara joins the Lady Mariner soccer staff after a four year stint as the Head Girls Soccer Coach at Longmeadow High School in Longmeadow Massachusetts.
Before her arrival to MMA, Coach Caprara previously taught elementary physical education and coached high school soccer and lacrosse in western Massachusetts. In Erin's four years as the head varsity soccer coach at Longmeadow High School, she led her team to two Division 1 Western Mass Final appearances, winning the first Western Mass Girls Soccer Championship, and first league championship in school history. She was the recipient of the 2004 Pioneer Valley Soccer Officials Association Division 1 Coach Sportsmanship Award. Erin was also a member of the Soccer City Training Center Coaching Staff in Wilbraham Massachusetts.
Erin's coaching experience also included two years as an assistant coach with the Longmeadow Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team which won two Western Mass Championships and and were Massachusetts state finalists both years. Erin was also employed for two years with the All-American Speed Camp as a speed and agility instructor.
Prior to the beginning of her coaching career Caprara played collegiately at Springfield College where she also graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Physical Education. She received her Masters Degree in Education from Westfield State College. Erin is currently teaching elementary physical education in Belfast Maine. Besides working with the Maine Maritime Soccer programs, she will be co-coaching the U-13 Girls Blackbear United Soccer team.
